In East Preston, Hampshire, Country View Home Additions Ltd completed this stunning Guardian Home Extension project for Mr and Mrs. Conway. The couple were tired of their existing lean-to conservatory at the rear of the property, and were desperate for a more usable space that would become their main living and dining area. Mrs. Conway found Country View Home Additions Ltd while searching online, and after an initial chat, they were raring to go.
Mr and Mrs. Conway opted for a large 6.5m x 7.5m extension that would wrap around the back of their cosy bungalow. Garreth and his team sat down with the couple to discuss the design of the system, providing them with CAD drawings of the structure that were tweaked and refined to meet their vision. Once the design was finalised, the home extension was fabricated in-house by Country View Home Additions in just two weeks.
Out with the old, in with the new
Once the old conservatory was torn down and removed, the install team began by laying a traditional slab concrete foundation across the area of the new extension. The prefabricated walls were then ready to be constructed, already cut to size including openings for doors and windows. The structure was then completed with a Guardian Warm Roof, making the whole structure watertight in just two days, and enabling the entire build to be completed just in three weeks.

Another key benefit of the Guardian Home Extension’s flexible design and construction process was its ability to manage tricky areas, such as ensuring there was sufficient height for the patio doors which was crucial to the Conway’s desire to open up their living space to the garden. The height of the extension needed to be set by the main bungalow’s existing roof, limiting the available space for full-height patio doors. To overcome this, the designs were altered on-site to include a central pier, rather than a structural steel beam that would sit across the front of the extension. By adding the central pier, the load was shared differently, meaning that the dual patio doors that were to be installed at the front could be the full height.

The newly completed extension was finished in a crisp white render, which blends seamlessly with the existing home. The homeowners wanted a bright, airy space and so chose floor-to-ceiling windows with clean white frames, as well as large sliding doors, and VELUX roof windows, to flood the space with natural light. The family now use the extension as their everyday living area, as well as for hosting – with space enough for an oversized corner sofa, a multifunctional dining-come-pool table, a bar and a dartboard: “With the prices of going out skyrocketing, the extension is paying for itself with the money we’re saving from entertaining at home!”
What’s more, they can enjoy the space year-round, whatever the weather, thanks to the excellent thermal performance of the Guardian Home Extension System. As Mr Conway said: “With our new extension, we are literally putting the heating on for an hour and it stays warm all night! Even on colder nights we’ve been opening the window because it gets so warm.
